New construction fireplace design and installation

We Work Seamlessly with Your Builder

Getting a fireplace right in new home construction isn't something you want to figure out after the drywall's up. It needs to be planned from the beginning — integrated into the blueprints, coordinated with the framing crew, and scheduled around the rest of the build.

That's where we come in. Shane spent years in residential construction before starting Colorado Comfort Designs, so we understand builder timelines, construction sequencing, and the back-and-forth that happens on a job site. We don't slow down your build — we integrate into it.

We work directly with your builder, architect, and interior designer to make sure the fireplace is exactly right: the correct rough-in dimensions, proper gas line sizing, venting that clears the roof line, electrical for blowers and smart controls, and structural framing that's engineered for the specific unit you've chosen. When it's time for finishing — stone, tile, mantel, trim — we handle that too.

The result? A fireplace that looks like it was designed with the house — because it was.

New Construction Fireplaces for Custom Homes

Modern linear gas fireplace in new construction

Modern Linear Gas Fireplaces

The most requested style in new Colorado homes. Clean horizontal lines, frameless glass, and ribbon flames that create a dramatic focal point in living rooms, master bedrooms, and open-concept great rooms. We install single-sided, see-through, three-sided peninsula, and corner configurations. Available in lengths from 36" to 72" and beyond — we'll match the scale to your room.

Classic fireplace with wood mantel

Classic Stone & Wood Mantel

For homes with a traditional or mountain-lodge aesthetic, nothing beats a stone fireplace with a real wood mantel. We build full masonry surrounds using natural stone, cultured stone, brick, or custom tile. Mantel options include reclaimed barn wood for that rustic Colorado look, polished hardwood for refined elegance, or hand-carved stone for timeless character. Each mantel is custom-measured and installed by our crew.

Outdoor fireplace and fire pit for new home

Outdoor Living Features

New construction is the best time to plan outdoor fire features — the gas lines and electrical are easier to run during the build. We design and install outdoor fireplaces, custom fire pits, and outdoor kitchens that integrate with your home's architecture and landscaping plan. Building it all at once saves money and creates a cohesive design.

Fireplaces for Commercial Builds

We also work with commercial builders on new construction fireplace installations for hotels, restaurants, multifamily developments, senior living facilities, and office buildings. Commercial projects require larger units, higher BTU ratings, commercial-grade venting systems, and coordination with fire suppression and building management systems.

Our experience in both residential and commercial fireplace installation means we understand the unique requirements of each. We coordinate with general contractors, architects, MEP engineers, and fire marshals to deliver fireplace installations that meet all commercial codes and pass inspection the first time.

If you're a developer or GC planning a project that includes fireplaces, bring us in early. The earlier we're involved, the smoother the installation goes — and the better the final result looks.

Our New Construction Scope of Work

Design Consultation & Blueprint Review

We review your architectural plans, recommend fireplace placement and sizing, and specify the exact model, venting requirements, gas line sizing, electrical needs, and structural framing details. Your builder gets a clear spec sheet that their crew can work from — no guesswork, no rework.

Code Compliance & Permitting

Every new construction fireplace installation must meet local building codes for clearances, venting, gas supply, and fire safety. We know the codes for Jefferson County, Denver, Adams County, Boulder County, and Summit County inside and out. We coordinate inspections and make sure everything passes the first time — because a failed inspection delays the entire build.

Rough-In Coordination

We work with your framing crew to ensure the fireplace chase is framed correctly — proper dimensions, fire-rated materials, and structural support for the specific unit you've chosen. We install firestops, run gas lines, and stub out electrical during the rough-in phase so everything's ready when the fireplace goes in.

Installation & Finishing

Once the house is dried in and interior work begins, our crew installs the fireplace unit, connects venting, completes the gas and electrical hookups, and builds the surround. Whether it's floor-to-ceiling stacked stone, sleek porcelain tile, or a simple drywall return with a floating mantel — we do the finishing work ourselves so the quality is consistent from start to finish.

Final Testing & Homeowner Walkthrough

Before the final punch list, we test every component: gas connections, ignition system, safety controls, blower, remote, thermostat integration. Then we walk the homeowner through everything — because the builder shouldn't have to explain how the fireplace works. That's our job.

What Builders Need to Know About New Construction Fireplaces

Timing Is Everything

The #1 mistake we see in new construction fireplace projects is bringing us in too late. If you call us after framing is done, we're working around existing structure instead of with it. That means more complicated venting runs, potential rework, and higher costs. The ideal time to involve us is during the design phase — before framing begins. We review the plans, spec the exact unit, provide a detailed framing plan for the chase, and coordinate gas/electrical/venting requirements so your crew knows exactly what to build.

Choosing the Right Fireplace for Your Floor Plan

Not every fireplace works in every room. A 6-foot linear unit needs a wide wall and proper structural support. A see-through fireplace between the living room and dining room needs careful framing and dual-sided venting. A three-sided peninsula fireplace needs a specially built chase that's accessible from three directions. A corner unit needs a different framing approach than a flat-wall unit. We know all of these requirements inside out and can recommend the right configuration based on your floor plan, room dimensions, and the homeowner's aesthetic vision.

Energy Efficiency in New Colorado Homes

New construction in Colorado increasingly emphasizes energy efficiency and tight building envelopes. This is where direct vent gas fireplaces really shine — they're sealed combustion systems that don't steal heated indoor air for combustion. They draw fresh air from outside and exhaust back outside through a coaxial vent. This means zero impact on your home's air pressure balance, which matters a lot in tight, well-insulated new construction. It also means better indoor air quality since no combustion gases enter the living space. We exclusively recommend direct vent systems for new construction — they're the right choice for modern, efficient Colorado homes.

Multi-Fireplace Homes

Many custom Colorado homes include fireplaces in multiple rooms — the great room, the master bedroom, the basement, and sometimes the outdoor living area. When a home has multiple gas fireplaces, gas line sizing becomes critical. The main gas supply needs to be large enough to handle the total BTU demand of all appliances running simultaneously. We calculate total load requirements and coordinate with the plumber to ensure proper gas line sizing from the meter. This is one of those things that's easy to get right during the build and extremely expensive to fix later.

For Homeowners Building Custom

If you're building a custom home and you want a fireplace, talk to us before you finalize your plans. We can help you choose the perfect fireplace for each room, ensure your builder has the right specifications for the chase, and give you an accurate budget so there are no surprises at the end of the build. The earlier we're involved, the better the result — and the lower the cost. We've worked with dozens of builders across the Denver metro, and we make the process smooth for everyone.
